Portrait of LS Lowery

LS Lowry

LS Lowry is one of Salford’s most famous artists. He studied Art at the Royal Technical Institute, now the Peel Building, from 1915 to 1925. He would often paint scenes from across Salford.

The curator at the museum and art gallery was an early collector and the city council ended up with a large comprehensive collection. The collection would later form the basis for The Lowry art gallery, Salford Quays.
